Three hundred and fifty-five.
That is the approximate number of sleeps Robinson
will have before he will have another chance to regain the Steinley Cup.
With the Vancouver Canucks falling in four games to the San
Jose Sharks, Robinson’s chances of successfully defending his Steinley title
were all but swept away. Sure, there may
be some obscure permutation or near impossible turn of events that would see
him remain in contention, but losing four skaters – players he was counting on
to post big numbers through at least two rounds – is a crippling blow.
It took just one week for Robinson’s Steinley hopes to be dashed.
“I should’ve known better,” said Robinson from his offices
in Ottawa on Wednesday. “I hate those guys.
Every last one of them. Why did I
ever pick the Canucks this year?”
Now Robinson will place his hope in the Red Wings and look for
them to upset the Ducks, or he’ll lose another two players and his fate will be
sealed. He’ll also pray to the hockey
gods for a Minnesota Wild comeback, but that looks extremely unlikely now that
the Hawks have taken a commanding 3-1 lead in that series.
“The quest for the Steinley can be glorious, but more often
than not it is just very cruel,” added Robinson.
“Last spring, I held the Cup
in my hands for the first time in 19 years.
I hope I don’t have to wait that long to do it again.”
